1969 – Opening of the Bonaventure Zoo by Raymond Bourque
1972 – The city of Bonaventure purchases the zoo
1990 – Closure of the zoo
1991 – After a regional economic summit, implementation of an ecozoo or bioparc project
1996 – Bioparc construction begins
1998 – Bioparc’s official opening. At that moment: the Bioparc welcomes 19 000 visitors for an operating budget of more or less 300 000$ and around fifteen employees.
2005 – Realization of a feasibility study and a strategic development plan
2008 – The Bioparc is ten years old. At that moment: the Bioparc welcomes 18 500 visitors for an operating budget of more or less 400 000$ and twenty two employees.
2009 – Construction begins for the first phase of the strategic development plan. Achievements: new aviary for the marine and coastal birds, new habitat for the grey wolves, new landscaping. Construction of nine seaside cottages.
2010 – Inauguration of the new insectarium, sponsored by George Brossard, founder of the insectarium of Montreal.
2011 – Construction and opening of the little farm and expansion of the administrative offices. At that moment, the Bioparc welcomes more than 25 000 visitors, the operating budget is more or less 700 000$ and it employs 28 people.
2015 – Construction begins for the second phase of the strategic development plan. Achievements: reorganization of existing habitats, new habitats for the beavers and bobcat, new landscaping, new playground, renewal and updating of interpretation panels, new signaling.
2016 – Construction of an interior lobby, an amphibians and reptiles pavilion, expansion of the insectarium and updating of the exhibition, expansion of the gift shop and updating of the restaurant.
2017 – Complete redesign of the common seals habitat and new activity offer: nautical excursions in the aquatic reserve of the Bonaventure river estuary.
2018 – The Bioparc is 20 years old! Inauguration of the common seals habitat. At the moment, the Bioparc welcomes 30 000 visitors, had an operating budget of more or less 875 000$ and employs 33 people.
