American kestrel

Falco sparverius

The smallest falcon.

  • It is the smallest falcon of Québec.
  • Food surplus is hidden inside tree roots, shrubs, fences and other cavities in order to keep reserves for periods of scarcity.
  • The kestrel is the most common falcon of the continent, but populations are slowly declining. The loss of habitat and the deforestation of old trees that serve for nesting are causes of the decline.
