It builds the largest nest of all North American birds. It can measure up to two meters in diameter and a meter in height.
The largest nest observed measured 2.9 meters in diameter and 6 meters high.
During courtship, male and female fly high in the sky, lock talons and spiral to the ground, breaking apart at the last moment.
Capable of floating, it can use its wings to “paddle” on top of water that is too deep to wade.
