  • It builds the largest nest of all North American birds. It can measure up to two meters in diameter and a meter in height.
  • The largest nest observed measured 2.9 meters in diameter and 6 meters high.
  • During courtship, male and female fly high in the sky, lock talons and spiral to the ground, breaking apart at the last moment.
  • Capable of floating, it can use its wings to “paddle” on top of water that is too deep to wade.
