Blue-spotted Salamander

Ambystoma laterale

Watch out for the cannibal!

  • When it feels threatened, the blue-spotted salamander secretes a toxic whitish liquid by the skin. It will also wave its tail in order to draw the predator to a less vulnerable area.
  • Cannibalism, where a large individual eats a smaller one, is frequent in this species.
