Painted Turtle
Chrysemys picta
Survive freezing!
It is the male who entices the female during courtship. He positions himself before her, legs extended in front and he caresses her neck and head with his long claws.
It is the only known reptile capable of resisting freezing. Thanks to the presence of certain sugars in the muscles and organs, the newborns hibernate in the nest and can chill up to -8°C without suffering from frost.
