Red-eared Slider Turtle
Trachemys scripta elegans
Exotic species at large!
Originally from south-east America, it is an exoctic species that was introduced to Quebec. Its introduction can be detrimental for the indigenous species with whom it is in competition for food, egg-laying sites, wintering sites and sun exposure sites.
It is identified thanks to the red or orange colored elongated spot present behind the eye. This spot fades over time and can almost disappear in old males.
