Red Fox
Vulpes vulpes
The most cunning of the canidae.
The red fox can have a variety of fur colors: red, silver, black or mixed.
Its hunting technique is known as the “mousing pounce” or muletage. It pounces in the air and falls on its prey, front paws first, sometimes through several centimetres of snow.
It marks its territory with its urine, excretions and secretions coming from glands on its paws. It is by scratching at the ground that it leaves this odor, reminiscent of that of a skunk.
